Our Balinese batik sarongs are perfect for the beach, you can wear them as a skirt, as a dress, use them as a lightweight beach mat, as a towel or we have even rigged one up as a sunshade!

Our Balinese sarongs are handmade for us by our fair trade producers in Bali, who use the traditional batik method of printing.  

Batik sarong production in Bali is a careful, time-honored process that blends skill, patience, and cultural knowledge. Our producers begin by sketching patterns onto the fabric, often inspired by nature, religion, and local traditions. Melted wax is then applied by hand using a canting tool or copper stamps to protect parts of the design from dye. The cloth is dyed, dried, and re-waxed multiple times to achieve layered colours and detailed motifs. After the final dyeing, the wax is removed, revealing intricate patterns. This handmade process makes each Balinese batik sarong unique.

Balinese batik sarongs are vibrant textiles that are part of the culture on the island of Bali. Traditionally worn by both men and women, sarongs are wrapped around the waist and used for daily activities, temple ceremonies, and festive occasions. What sets Balinese batik apart is its intricate use of pattern and colour, creating flowing motifs inspired by nature, mythology, and Hindu symbolism—lotus flowers, birds, waves, and geometric forms are especially common. 

Today, Balinese batik sarongs are cherished not only as traditional garments but also as works of art, celebrated worldwide for their craftsmanship, beauty, and deep cultural roots.

Each Sarong is a lovely big size measuring 118cm by 163 cm ( 46.5 by 64.2 inches). 

They are machine washable on a 40 degree wash and best line dried.
