Our stunning Rajasthani Patchwork Wall Hangings are being sold from our own private collection.  They were bought from an old merchant in Jaisalmer, a walled medieval city, deep in the Great Thar Desert of Western Rajasthan back in 1996 on one of our first buying trips in this region.  

Our wall hangings are a mosaic of traditional hand embroidered pieces, it is believed that the pieces were embroidered by Muslim women in the Kutch Area of Western Rajasthan bordering Pakistan in the 1970's & Hindu Women in the Barmer Area of Western Rajasthan in the 1980's.

Muslims are forbidden from depicting living things in their art as all living things were created by God, so Muslim Art always portrays geometric designs. In order to make their designs more beautiful they use stunning gold and silver metallic thread.

Hindu Women on the other hand use bright colours to depict flowers, animals and scenes from village life. Our patchwork embroideries are unique genuine works of art , contemporary pieces are of a far lower quality.

Our pieces were made for love whereas contemporary pieces are made for profit.  These old Rajasthani patchwork embroideries are getting quite collectable as they are not being made to this quality anymore.
