Sandalwood incense has ancient origins in India, where the fragrant heartwood of the Santalum tree has been used for over 4,000 years in religious rituals, medicine, and perfumery.

The true Indian sandalwood (Santalum album), which is the most prized for incense and oil, is not native to Thailand.   Thailand does have related or similar native species (sometimes called “Thai sandalwood”), but these don’t always have the same rich oil content or fragrance quality as true Indian sandalwood.  The best, most highly prized & most expensive Sandalwood still orginates from India

In Thai culture, sandalwood incense holds a respected place in spiritual and ceremonial life. It is commonly used in temples during offerings to the Buddha, as well as in household altars for daily prayer and merit-making. The scent is believed to purify the environment, calm the mind, and support meditation. Sandalwood is also associated with sacredness and reverence, often used in royal and important ceremonies. Beyond religious contexts, it is appreciated in Thai massage and wellness practices, reflecting a broader cultural emphasis on balance, tranquility, and inner harmony.

Our Sandalwood Incense is hand rolled by our lovely small scale fair trade producers in Thailand, from Sandalwood imported from the South of India.

Because our incense is entirely natural you get a beautiful scent unlike many of the commercial incenses which merely spray their incense sticks with perfume which smells great in the packet but not so good when it burns!

Our Indian Sandalwood incense comes in a pack containing  8 high quality incense sticks, each stick measures 6 inches / 15 cm and will burn for 15 - 20 mins in a still room.
