  • Original Vintage Thangka Painting - Tibetan Buddhist Om Made Padme Hum Mantra Mandela featuring the Eight Auspicious Signs

FROM OUR OWN PRIVATE COLLECTION

Our Om Made Padme Hum Mandela Thangka is a masterpiece of Buddhist art, embodying the profound teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. This intricate thangka, or sacred painting, is rich in symbolism, each element carefully crafted to convey spiritual messages.

The six-syllable Sanskrit mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" is probably the best known manta in  Tibetan Buddhism. Each syllable holds profound significance:

1. Om - Represents the body, speech, and mind of all Buddhas.

2. Ma - Removes the attachment to jealousy and symbolizes ethics.

3. Ni - Represents the renunciation of desire and symbolizes patience.

4. Pad - Symbolizes perseverance and the elimination of ignorance.

5. Me - Symbolizes concentration and the elimination of greed.

6. Hum - Represents wisdom and the elimination of hatred.

Together, "Om Mani Padme Hum" encapsulates the path to enlightenment through the unity of method and wisdom, embodying the essence of compassion and wisdom.

"Om Mani Padme Hum" is a powerful mantra, encapsulating the essence of compassion and wisdom, embodied by the Buddha Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion.

A Mandala Thangka is a sacred painting in Tibetan Buddhism, typically depicting a spiritual or divine realm. The word "mandala" means "circle" in Sanskrit, representing the universe. The Mandala Thangka serves as a meditation aid, guiding practitioners toward enlightenment. It symbolizes unity, harmony, and the interconnectedness of all things, fostering spiritual growth and understanding.

This thankga also features the Eight Auspicious Signs which hold profound symbolism in Tibetan Buddhism. The first, the Endless Knot, represents interdependence and unity. Second, the Lotus signifies purity and spiritual growth, as it blooms from murky waters. The Victory Banner symbolizes the victory of wisdom over ignorance. Fourth, the Golden Fishes embody freedom and fearlessness, navigating life's currents. The Wheel of Dharma represents the teachings of Buddha, guiding to enlightenment. The Treasure Vase embodies endless treasure and wealth. The Conch Shell embodies the sweet sound of the Dharma awakening beings from ignorance. Lastly, the Parasol symbolizes protection from all obstacles and suffering.

This thangka serves not only as a religious icon but also as a tool for meditation, a visual aid to reach a state of enlightenment. Every stroke, color, and symbol invites the viewer to delve deeper into the profound teachings of Tibetan Buddhism, fostering a sense of peace and enlightenment.

This beautiful Thangka is painted by an experienced Thangka Painter who has a studio in the shadow of the great Boudha Stupa in Kathmandu. It is unframed and painted onto canvas, the  picture measures 260 mm by 260 mm and is a very detailed hand painting in the traditional thangka style. The gold on the painting is gold leaf paint and the pigments used are all natural mineral or vegetable based paints.

Our Thangkas are at least 20 years old as the Thangka Painting in the last Century was far superior to current Thangkas which are made primarily for the tourist trade.
