Our Beautiful Balinese Barongs are proving to be very popular with our customers. They are hand carved by a family of master woodcarvers living high in the hills in Bali.

The Barong is a lion-like creature and character in the mythology of Bali. He is the king of the spirits, leader of the hosts of good, and enemy of Rangda, the demon queen and mother of all spirit guarders in the mythological traditions of Bali.

Our Barong are hand carved from sustainably grown albesia wood. Albesia wood is an incredible resource, in the tropics trees can grow to a height of 70 ft and a girth of 3 ft within 4 years of germination. It is soft, light and easy to carve and as it grows so quickly it is very sustainable.

Our Barongs are hand carved before being painted by hand then the golden bits are gilded with a very fine gold leaf. As they are hand carved and hand painted each chicken is slightly different, so you are getting a unique piece of art!

We have two sizes of Barong, Mama and Baby.  Our Baby Barong measures approx 25 cm wide by 17 cm wide and our Mama Barong approx 47 cm by 33 cm.  Why not get one of each?
