We picked up these beautiful hand cast brass Buddha Hands from a small market in Kathmandu, Nepal on one of our buying trips.  We believe them to be at least 20 years old, probably late 20th century.

The hands are in the unusual Varada Mudra position which signifies offering, welcome, charity, giving, compassion and sincerity. Also Nepalese Buddha hands are quite unusual, most that I have seen come from Bali and are different hand positions.

The hands are made using the ancient lost wax method, this is when a wax model is made of the hands.  A plaster cast is then formed around the wax hands, the wax is then meted and poured out and molten brass is poured in it's place.  This gives a strong sturdy hand but leaves a hollow space inside the hand which is great otherwise the handle would be too heavy!

The hands make great door pulls, cupboard or draw handles or hooks on the back of doors.

When placed on it's base our hands measure 8 cm high, around 10 cm long and 5 cm wide.  Set of 2.  Brass screws not incuded.
