FROM OUR OWN COLLECTION
These special Vintage Singing Bowls are one of our most impressive Singing Bowls, we bought them from an old family business in the shadow of the great Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu, on one of our early buying trips to Kathmandu back in the 1990's. The family had been making Singing Bowls for the Tibetan Monks who lived in the monastries around Boudanath for many generations The monks use the bowls in their meditation and religious practice.
They are bowls that fosters a sense of connection to the universe helping to manifest desires and intentions and it assists in balancing energy promoting alignment and vitality. The resonant tones produced when struck by the wooden mallet create a sacred atmosphere, enhancing the potency and significance of the spiritual rituals. These bowls are widely known to cultivate mindfulness, presence, and a deeper awareness of the present moment. The calming tone produced can deepen serenity, aids unwinding, and stimulates healing at a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.
To play the singing bowl it should be placed either on the flat of the hand or on it's cushion. I prefer the flat of the hand as then you can feel the vibrations of the bowl through your hand as well as hearing the sound. It can then either be struck with the wooden mallet which produces a beautiful range of harmonics that slowly decay, or it can be made to sing by rubbing the mallet around the outside of the bowl applying a steady pressure. This is a very mindful activity as it centre's the bodies attention, if your attention wanders you find the bowl starts to produce discordant sounds
Our Large Vintage Singing Bowl produces a wonderfully deep sound with many harmonics, the sound slowly decays when you stop playing.
Each bowl is hand made and then hand tuned by hammering the bowl to give the perfect sound. Hammering the bowl gives the bowl a wide range of harmonics rather than just one pure note, this is the mark of a high quality singing bowl.
We have just one Large Vintage Singing Bowl it weighs 585 grams , it has a diameter of 14 cm and a height of 7 cm,and comes with a simple wooden mallet and a special cushion for the bowl to sit on.
We clean our Singing bowls at home with the a soft clean cloth and water. Firstly, slightly dampen a piece of cloth and gently clean the bowl in circular motion on both sides. The bowl should then be dried completely with a second soft dry cloth. We advise against polishing the bowl with a metal polish as this has the effect of making the bowl more slippery, which reduces the friction between the bowl and the stick which is what makes the sound.
